Music placement in Derry Girls and Young Offenders
Meet the music supervisors responsible for the two biggest Irish comedy shows for the last decade, and find out how to pitch music to them.
Mark Gordon runs Score Draw Music; a multi-award winning composition company working in film, television, advertising and animation. The last 12 months have seen the company win the Royal Television Society award for best music for their work with Dolly Parton on the pre-school Nickeodean Jr series ‘Lily’s Driftwood Bay’. The company also contributed a co-write to the 2018 Oscar-winning film ‘The Shape Of Water’, and more recently has had music used in shows including Netflix's 'The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina'. Alongside this the company’s current slate of work includes music and songs for an 80-part series for PBS America, the music for a 52-part series for Disney, a recent commission for a Playmobil animated series, feature documentary score work for BBC and Channel 4, and ongoing music for a range of global brands including a longstanding partnership with Adidas for whom the company supply bespoke music. Mark has also programmed and spoken on many music and image panels and discussions- including at SXSW, Primavera Pro, Paris Sync Summit, Eurosonic, and The Great Escape.
Over the last three years, Pete Saville and Zoë Ellen Bryant have worked together at Carbon Logic as Music Supervisors for TV Drama. Collaboration began in 2016 on Hooten & The Lady and The Durrells II, and has continued (via Born To Kill, The Durrells III, Save Me, Strangers and A Discovery Of Witches) to present day where Pete and Zoë are well into supervising Derry Girls II and Baghdad Central, and have recently wrapped on Gurinder Chadha's film Blinded By The Light. For the last two years, Pete and Zoë have been nominated at the Music Week Sync Awards.
Dina was the music director at Oprah Winfrey's Oxygen Network in New York from it's inception in 1999, where she oversaw music placement for all productions and produced concerts for the network. After leaving Oxygen, she set up Planet of Sound and has worked on various projects for Discovery Networks, FUSE, Chevy and The Blue Man Group. In 2014, she relocated to Ireland and since has worked on a dynamic range of projects including 'The Young Offenders' (film & tv series), 'Katie' (Katie Taylor documentary), 'Sonja: the White Swan' and the upcoming films 'The Hole in the Ground' & 'Vivarium'.
